Christy Patton

English Teacher

Christy is an edu­ca­tor with many years expe­ri­ence, in both the ter­tiary and sec­ondary fields. After study­ing music at the Can­berra School of Music and the Syd­ney Con­ser­va­to­rium, she taught music at St Joseph’s Boy’s Col­lege in Hunter’s Hill, and then moved to the role of media and com­mu­ni­ca­tions lec­turer at Qantm Col­lege & SAE Insti­tute in Sur­rey Hills. Christy holds degrees in music, professional writ­ing and a post grad­u­ate qual­i­fi­ca­tion in sec­ondary edu­ca­tion. She cur­rently teaches Human­i­ties to senior stu­dents at Can­berra Col­lege in Phillip, ACT.

In this unit you will be required to present your work to the class at regular intervals, and to explain your intended direction as an author


The specific goals of this unit are for students to:

  • demonstrate a growing control of form, theme, purpose and voice in their writing
  • workshop their own writing and respond critically to the writing of others
  • draft and redraft their writing
  • develop greater expertise in using a variety of literary devices, including descriptive and figurative language
  • develop an understanding of the importance of structure in storytelling
