Beth Parker

Language & Culture Instructor

I have lived overseas in Sydney, Australia, Copenhagen, Denmark and Shanghai, China. I have traveled extensively and am currently studying Spanish and Mandarin. I understand what it is like to live in a different country and struggle to speak a foreign language, as well as what it feels like to experience Culture Shock. I have taught English as a Second Language for close to ten years. My teaching experience ranges from elementary school children through university students and beyond to business people. My strengths are in teaching non-native English speakers TOEFL skills, academic writing and American cultural understanding and I excel at conversational English, creative writing and professionalism and ethics. I am TEFL certified through i-to-i LoveTEFL.

NOTE: The TOEFL was developed by ETS (Educational Testing Service) to measure the ability of non-native English speakers to succeed at an academic institution. The test evaluates listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills. A TOEFL score measures the communications skills of those wishing to be accepted to a post-secondary school where English is the native language.

Today, the majority of testing centers are using the iBT (Internet Based TOEFL) rather than the PBT (Paper Based TOEFL). Check with your local testing center to confirm what format is available. This course is designed to prepare you for the iBT.
