NCEA LEVEL 3 ART HISTORY
*University approved subject.
Welcome to Level 3 Art History 2016.
Art History is the study of objects of art in their historical, developmental and stylistic contexts, i.e. genre, design, format, and style. This includes the "major" arts of painting, sculpture, and architecture.
This year we will survey the development of Italian Renaissance art, from Giotto in the early fourteenth century, through to Piero della Francesca in the 1470’s. We will study the sculptures of Donatello and the groundbreaking architecture of Brunelleschi. We will examine the major artistic styles of the period including Italo-Byzantine and International Gothic, and review the influence classical antiquity. Northern Renaissance will be studied to provide comparison. We also will examine the Mount Albert Grammar School art collection to develop an in-depth understanding of the impact of media and processes on artworks.
There will be SIX achievement standards offering a total of 24 credits. Three standards will be assessed internally. The assignments for these will be completed throughout the year. The remaining three standards will be assessed by an external examination at the end of the year.
If you have any questions at all, please see either myself or Ms. Aleh (HOD Art) as soon as possible.
We are here to help you do your best.
