JAPANESE I is the beginners class, and all people new to the language need to have passed this class to continue forward in my program. This class will introduce elementary communication skills and the Japanese writing system. This course is designed for students who never studied Japanese in an academic environment.
Emphasis will be placed on learning the three Japanese writing systems: Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji, as well as vocabulary, basic greetings, time, money matters, sentence structure, and more.
None, this is the base course.
By the end of the course, students will have acquired basic communicative skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Japanese. The skills you learn from this course will enable you to engage in simple yet useful Japanese conversations, read and understand basic written Japanese, and feel comfortable using hiragana, katakana and some kanji. Students will also acquire a foundation of Japanese grammar and vocabulary upon which future mastery of Japanese will be based.
Absolutely nothing. Everything required is included in the cost of the course, minus supplies such as pencils and paper. There is no textbook for this course. All you need is a good work ethic, good study habits, and a positive attitude.
