Fernandi Terahadi

Fernandi Terahadi is full-time undergraduate at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YSTCM), National University of Singapore. He received full scholarship from the YSTCM to pursue his Bachelor of Music degree in Recording Arts and Sciences. Fernandi currently studying under Zhou Xiao Dong.During his time studying in the Conservatory, Fernandi has done music recordings project such as the recording of “the Music of Pictures” concert which featured T’ang Quartet. Moreover, Fernandi has worked with Zhou Xiao Dong to produce a jazz album featuring Tony Makarome’s band. Besides music recordings, Fernandi has also done music arrangements and music compositions for film. He composed music for “Flowers of Asmat”, a play by NUANSA Cultural Production, which was performed at University Cultural Center.

Course Description :
In this class, passionate people who are new in music production like you will learn the basic of mixing recording tracks through 4 weeks of online courses. Audio mixing is a process by which multiple sounds are combined together into one channel. Besides that, it also involves the process of adjusting the volume on each tracks, placing the instrument sound in the favorable stereo spectrum, adjusting the frequency of each instruments to avoid frequency interference, and adding effects to increase the excitement of the song. A great mixing engineers would use those processes in order to make the sound of the song favorable to consumers’ ears. This class will be your building block to achieve your dream as a great mixing engineers.

Goals and Objective :
Student in this course will be introduced to the mixing skills, terminology, formats, infrastructure requirement, and concepts. Through recorded tutorials and four mixing projects, student will learn technique for mixing audio files.

Lesson Plan
Week 1 :

- Ear training: good mix versus bad mix
- Knowing the technical requirement for producing a good mix (Sound Format, Sample Rate, Bit Depth, Mono vs Stereo etc.)
- Learning the basic workflow of audio mixing process
- Learning the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) interface: mixing window, editing window, timecode, tempo, etc.
- Learning the tools such as cut, paste, trim, select, etc.

Week 2 :
- In phase versus out of phase
- Adjusting the volume (main volume, input gain, output gain) and pan with or without the use of automation
- The Function of each mixing plugins :
   - Compressor  : Ratio, Threshold, Gain, Attack, and Release
   - Equalizer       : Bandwidth, Frequency, Gain,
   - Limiter           : Release, Input, and Output

Week 3 :
- Filtering the track by way of using EQ
   - Low Pass Filter
   - High Pass Filter
   - Bandwidth Filter
- Adding sound depth by way of using reverb plugins
   - Convolution reverb
   - Algorithmic reverb
-Stereo Imager

Week 4 : Final Touch
-Distortion Plugins
-Chorus and Delay
-Reverse Reverb
-Side Chain Compression
-White Noise/Pink Noise Sweep
