Intro to Piano

Instructor: Ahkeem Hopkins

 

First semester to develop basic keyboard and musicianship skills including technic, sight reading, harmonization, accompaniment, theory, and piano repertoire in preparation for the Piano Proficiency Exam

 

At the end of this course, you will:

  • Students will have a clear understanding music theory before playing the piano.
  • Students will know how to play scales and understand hand positions that corresponds.
  • Students will understand the circle of 4ths/5ths and the key signatures that corresponds.
  • Students will understand the fundamentals of sight reading.

 

 

NEEDS AND RESOURCES

 

Required Background

No prerequisites required.

 

Required Materials

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • Laptop with internet connection
  • Compatible Internet Browser
  • Piano or Keyboard (later in the course)
  • Skype, Cellphone, Email, etc.

 

 

COURSE SCHEDULE

 

The course can be taken at your own pace to ensure that you understand the material completely. Extra work can be given to reinforce the material if needed.

Grading Policies:

Weekly lessons: 25%

Quizzes: 25%

Final Performance: 50%

 

Grading Scale:

A: 100-90

B: 89-80

C: 79-70

D: 69-60

F: 59-0
