Improving reading skills for EdGlo 14 students in University of Oulu

Course description

This course is a research based short term programme for students of Education and Globalisation 14 in University of Oulu. The central aim of the course is to improve reading skills and comprehension in academic study. The course adopted SQ3R, a reading method formed from its letters (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review). This strategy has proven to be effective and versatile and can easily be integrated into many content areas and across grade levels

 

Student Learning Objective:

  • Students increase awareness of effective reading techniques and strategies
  • Students develop effective study habits by engaging in the pre-reading, during-reading, and post-reading steps of this strategy.     
  • Students will be able to follow the sequence of SQ3R in a section of expository text by checking off and writing responses on a worksheet with instructor’s guidance.
  • Students will be able to orally list the SQ3R sequence and what do in each part of the sequence.
