Scott is the Operations Manager and Chief Training Instructor for The Highlands Wilderness Training Institute, In addition to being an avid angler and an experienced boater with many years of experience under his belt, A past member of a local Volunteer Fire Department, possessing a strong background in the emergency services/ rescue and medical field. In addition Scott is a licensed commercial pilot with experience flying floatplanes around the North. Holder of The Royal Life Saving Society Bronze Medallion & Bronze Cross. PADI Open Water Scuba Diver. And recipient of two Central East Base Hospital “Lightning Bolt Awards” for being involved in the successful resuscitation of 2 Cardiac Arrest Victims. A previous member of the Canadian Civil Air Search & Rescue based out of Yellowknife NWT and the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Wilderness First Responder is accepted as the international standard for outdoor professionals and is a minimum requirement by many companies. If you want to work as an outdoor instructor, guide, or your job takes you to remote locations, this course is the for you. While much of your time is spent completing practical skills and scenarios, we will immerse you in this intensive format which will leave you with confidence in your ability to act.

Upon completion you will receive a WFR Certification valid for 3 years.

IMPORTANT COURSE INSTRUCTIONS

 

Now that you have accessed the courses online portion, the process should be fairly simple.

First we need you to ensure you have uploaded a photo to your profile, please do this asap.

 

On the main course page down the left hand side you will see a list of modules, these modules each represent a specific topic that you will need to develop an understanding of. Some of the modules have printable resources located at the bottom of the module.

 

Once you have proceeded through each module you should proceed to the task button located at the top of the course page.

Many but not all modules have a quiz or quizzes that must be completed.

 

Quizzes have a passing mark of 70%

you have two attempts at the quiz

 

If you do not obtain a mark of 70% after your second attempt please contact Scott early so that we may arrange for remedial assistance.

 

PLEASE NOTE:

Additional quizzes and the mid term exam will be uploaded over the next couple weeks. Please ensure you check the tasks option frequently for updated materials & assignments.

 

 

In order to ensure all students are properly prepared and have a solid understanding of concepts that we will be discussing during the in-class portion of the course, it is a prerequisite that all students have completed the online modules and associated quizzes with a passing mark of 70% prior to the first in-class session on Jan 4th.

 

You will also find a tab located at the top of the page called discussions. Please watch this section for messages and updates from the course instructors. In addition we encourage you to work as a team and use this section to ask questions or help others as needed.
