Overview

 

Course Description: This course will concentrate on the use of the type as a tool for the creation of clear communication. The course will focus on the history of type, classifications of type, and type as it is used within the context of words, sentences and paragraphs. The student will be exposed to a variety of projects to understand the beauty of letterforms as well as its power in communication.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate typography techniques that are essential to being a successful Graphic Designer.
  2. Demonstrate typography skills using programs such as, Adobe Illustrator and InDesign and be able to distinguish when these programs are appropriate for certain projects.
  3. Explain the different uses of Typography and be able to identify these uses outside of class as it pertains to the real world.
  4. Apply different typography techniques to multiple projects that relate to projects requested from future employers.

Required Materials: The student is required to have a notebook or notebook partition, and a pen or pencil, and thumb/flash drive. Optional, but recommended materials: color pencils. Glossy paper is required on a per project basis.
