Overview

Purpose

This course is intended and provided to be a benefit to organizations in addressing workplace hazards associated with interfacing with the public, a diverse work team and the risk of musculoskeletal injury lifting and handling materials. To ensure compliance please reference the occupational health and safety legislation in the jurisdiction of which the work or workplace operates under.

 

Background

Challenger Building Supplies has identified the following job roles that may be required to interface with the public, a diverse work team and lift or handle materials:

Course Objective

Following the completion of the Respectful Workplace & Applied Industrial Ergonomics course the participant will be able to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and proficiency on the following topics: 

 

Part 1

Achieve dramatic improvements in health and safety and productivity through practical ergonomics solutions. This section of the course provides the tools and resources to make simple and effective ergonomic improvements in the industrial environment. The section of the course emphasizes hands-on problem-solving methodologies to recognize, evaluate, and control ergonomic risk.

  • Explain the application of ergonomics to workstation retrofit and design
  • Evaluate workstations and equipment for good ergonomic design
  • Identify contributing factors to work-related musculoskeletal disorders
  • Accurately apply various ergonomic assessment tools
  • Prioritize ergonomic improvements to maximize return on investment (ROI)

 

Part 2

The equipment, materials, and supplies that a worker handles, loads, and/or delivers plays a vital role controlling the risk of personal injury. This section of the course provides insights on the safe work practices, limitations, restrictions, precautions and processes that can be practically applied. 

  • Ladders & Mechanical Aids
  • Lifting Techniques
  • Specifications created by Challenger Building Supplies to mitigate health and safety risks
  • Maintenance, repair and isolation of the equipment
  • Record-keeping for maintenance/repair work
  • First aid and emergency response procedures
  • Proficiency criteria for safe operation
