Welcome to the course Code of Conduct of Biotechnology!


Course objectives

This course Code of conduct will give additional knowledge for students that could be useful when working in marine biotechnology field. The Regulation module gives short overview on main regulations and organizations dealing with the International Maritime Law. The Bioethics module gives overview about bioethics field in science and gives focus in marine biotechnology ethics. The Intellectual property module includes main aspects of industrial intellectual property and copyright. The main guidelines of patentability and commercialization of the invention are given.  The short quiz after each module will consolidate the basic knowledge needed for studying biotechnology.

Course outcomes

By the end of this course, the student will be able to:

  • define the main features and organisations of the International Maritime Law
  • define the Maritime Zones 
  • name main areas of applications of Marine Biotechnology today
  • familiarize with the  Access and Benefit Sharing Agreement (ABSA) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)
  • distinguish the SDG 14 from other Sustainable Development Goals
  • to describe what it is patent
  • to know why, when patent is needed
  • to know the main paths of patentability

Course structure and learning material

The course is divided into three sections, Regulations, Bioethics and Idustrial intellectual property types. Section III consists of three lectures. Each section has one quiz.

Requirements to pass this course

To complete this course, you should watch material provided to you. You should get at least 60% on every quiz.
