This course is designed to provide preventative education for alcohol and drug misuse. The course serves to meet the requirements of the Sigma Chi NCDC Phase II Objectives.


This course seeks to educate learners on alcohol and drug misuse. By the end of this course, the learner will:

  • Be able to identify different types of alcohol and describe their potency
  • Understand and be able to describe the different units in which alcohol is measured
  • Be able to describe how alcohol affects the human body, as well as factors that affect intoxication
  • Understand the immediate and chronic effects of alcohol and alcoholism
  • Be able to recognize and respond to someone who is over-intoxicated
  • Understand the consequences of alcohol abuse/misuse
  • Be able to identify different classes of illicit substances and describe their effects on the body
  • Be able to recognize and respond to a drug overdose
  • Understand the immediate and long-term effects of drug abuse
  • Understand applicable federal and state laws, as well as University and organizational policies as they relate to alcohol and drugs
