Overview

Welcome to Level 2 Art History 2018.

Art History is the study of objects of art in their historical, stylistic and developmental contexts, i.e. genre, design, format, and style. This includes the "major" arts of painting, sculpture, and architecture.

This year we will survey the development of Western art from a period when a great wave of social and political change swept Europe. The French and Industrial Revolutions had a profound effect upon society. Consequently, artists invented new forms of art in response, challenging traditional ideas. We will examine the major artistic styles of Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism, Post- Impressionism and Art Nouveau.
