Overview

Course structure and process

This course consists of a total of two weeks, followed by a final assessment. Throughout the weeks you will:

  • Watch short videos, which include poll questions and discussions to see how your colleagues might view some of the same issues differently
  • Read required and further readings
  • Explore online resources
  • Share your thoughts and related personal experiences in the discussion forums

Course Objectives

  • Identify the expected changes of aging.
  • Describe the risk for malnutrition and dehydration in the aging population 
  • Summarize diseases that cause dementia 
  • Classify the three main stages of Alzheimer's disease and summarize each stage 
  • Define delirium and compare it to dementia 
  • Recommend nursing assistant care for persons with cognitive impairment, disorientation and dementia.

  • Week 1: Friday, October 14 to Thursday, October 20 at 2300

    • Assignment due dates
