Overview

This course is an integrated guide for intermediate to high-intermediate students of English. It focuses on the physical paragraph as a basic unit of composition common to most forms of academic writing. It integrates instruction in paragraph and sentence structure  with the writing process (Arnaudet & Barrett, 1990). It carefully guides students through the steps of writing process to produce well-organized and clearly developed paragraphs that are essential to academic writing  in English. Students will learn how to write with accuracy and confidence and how to organize different paragraph types, including enumeration, process, chronology, cause and effect, comparison and contrast, and definition (Oshima & Hogue, 2014). Writing process is viewed from a sociocultural perspective.
