Research: What we know, APPA Ltd.

Jules Gourley

The child bearing years are tender years of transitioning, stretching, and learning. It is a metamorphosis from woman to mother. For many, this period of time can be very difficult. Since the birth of my own two children, now teens, and because of my own experiences and struggles, I have spent the last 16 years helping women through this transition. This journey began in 1997 as a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, to Doula, then Midwife. It was in my midwifery practice that I first learned of placentophagy and began preparing placentas for palatable consumption. Shortly after leaving the organization where I received my original training, I co-founded and moderated “The New Placenta Group” on After years of working with the dedicated women who share this page with me, I am ecstatic to be part of APPA in an effort to raise professional and educational standards of the Professional Placenta Encapsulation Specialist.
